Memorable Memorial Day Musings
Edward's first Memorial Day -- May 2001
Happy Memorial Day Monday! The very last Monday in May.
We celebrate how grateful we are to all the servicemen and women who have given so much for us and the freedoms we love and cherish.
And Happy 13th Anniversary to my "honey" of 21 years this year. We met in England through mutual friends way back in 1988. It wasn't until 1990 that I knew I loved him (before that I'd told him outright that I could "never marry him." Funny now, huh?) It was a memorable road after that -- filled with fun adventures and rocky paths. Trying to stay in love across an ocean can be rather hard. My hat is off to all those who have managed to keep it going, too.
Funny how the memory works, isn't it? Sometimes Stuart and I stop for a moment and think back on our "history" together. We've had a lot of fun together. Adventures through Europe, trying to find youth hostels before they closed and taping the cows' bells in the Alps...trips to the beach where we ended up looking like lobsters instead of people....games and late-night movies...singing "Doe a Deer" and "Wuthering Heights" at the top of our lungs in the car....private jokes about "idle grass" and "MacDuff." Fun to look back on and reflect upon and share with the kids.
Little pieces of our history like bits of colored glass that sparkle through the darkness of the past.
Alas, 24 has ended for the season. Sigh. Sniff. Waaaaaaaaaaa! Oh, well. It was an awesome ending...slightly different than we expected, yet, upon reflection, exactly what we thought it would be. Deep, huh? We await next season and Jack's new adventures with bated breath.
The kids continue plodding through their school lessons. The end is near! Yee-haw!!
On that note, I'm off to help Stuart grill some steaks and potatoes and zucchini. Mmmmm!
Happy Memorial Day, everyone!

Anniversary Wishes!
47th Wedding Anniversary!!
On June 17th 1961, my dad took my mom to be his wife.

The rest is, as they say, history!
In a day and age when marriage is based on "whatever feels right" at the moment, we're proud (and very thankful) to have them as role models!
Happy Anniversary, Mom and Dad!!

Memorial Day Monday Musings

I hope you've enjoyed your three-day weekend!
Our Saturday was spent outside, doing some much needed yardwork. I cannot believe how jungle-like the yard had become! We did some weeding, some trimming, and some mulching. It's amazing how a couple of hours of work brought some tameness to it all. Unfortunately, I paid for it later on with my allergies...but that will change soon enough.
We had a lovely anniversary -- beautiful weather especially -- and are so grateful for all the anniversary wishes!! Thank you!
It was a fairly relaxed day. After church and lunch at Pizza Hut with the kids, we enjoyed time alone at Barnes & Noble and Target, followed by dinner at Red Lobster...and later in the evening, the movie P. S. I Love You. I won't say any more about that picture than "Wooof!" Excellent movie!! Box of tissues mandatory.
A BIG thank you to all the service men and women -- including my hubby and my father -- who have given of their time and energy to keep our country and our world safe! That's the point of this holiday, right?
You know how there are things in life you never expect to hear out loud? Ever? Heard this weekend from our 10-year-old daughter: "Daddy, I was playing with my brain, and it got stuck on the ceiling. Could you please help me get it down?" Head-scratching, I know...until I explain that Emily received a sticky, rubber "brain" novelty gift from Stuart's company when she went in for "Take Your Child to Work" day. Makes more sense like that, right? *grin*
We watched the old show Make Room for Daddy with the kids for our weekly dinner-and-a-movie night. It's been fun introducing them to the old movies and shows and seeing how much they enjoy them. This particular DVD even had the original 1955 commercials for Pall Mall cigarettes and Dodge cars. Hmm.... We had some discussion about how the tobacco and advertising industries glamorized cigarette use in the days before they realized how bad they really were for everyone.
A brain teaser for you from our Page-a-Day Mensa calendar:
You look at the time and realize that if it were two hours earlier, it would be three times as long before midnight as it would be two hours from now.
What time is it now?
We're off to "picnic" at my sister's house.

Wedded Bliss
5 THINGS TO BE HAPPY ABOUT
• two hands on the steering wheel
• strawberry-blonde hair
• wading into a creek
• every day another adventure
• the Pu-Pu platter for two
Taking a break from "Friday Funnies" to enjoy a day about TWO...
Our 11th Wedding Anniversary!
Wowzers!
On Saturday, May 25th 1996, at 1 p.m., we joined together to become hubby and wifey. And it's been "wedded bliss" ever since.
Okay. Okay. Not always "bliss" (we had moments of otherwise) but close to it.
We'll spend the day thinking about all the good times we've had and perhaps dig out the wedding video to show the kids Mommy and Daddy in their pre-parenthood days.
Then we'll drop off the kids at my parents' house to enjoy an overnight with their grandparents...and go off...just us TWO!
