Tuesday Tidies

Removing Spots from Crystal Glassware
To make them shine, add a splash of vinegar to a bowl or sink filled with several cups of water. Carefully dip the glassware into it and dry with a lint-free cloth.

Removing Sticky Residue
The sticky stuff left from gummed name stickers can be taken off by dabbing the area with cleaning fluid or a petroleum-based prewash spray.

Removing Scuff Marks from Kitchen Floor
They are not difficult to remove. Rub them just with a paper towel or a dry paper napkin. If this doesn't do the job, scrub off with a bit of baking soda.

Tuesday Tidies

I haven't done any "Tuesday Tidies" in awhile....so I thought: Why not do some Tuesday Tidies?

Why not, indeed.

So, without further adieu, here are some "Tuesday Tidies," courtesy of Hints from Heloise:

Bed Freshener: If you have a guest room, before guests arrive or just to keep the bed fresh when unused, tuck several fabric softener sheets under the bottom sheet to keep it smelling nice.

Cheap Way to Make Room Smell Nice: Don't throw out perfume card samples from magazines or samples from stores. Instead put the card samples (or pour a tad of perfume onto a cotton ball, paper towel or tissue) and place into the bottom of a wastebasket.

Keeping Garbage Can Smelling Sweet: Try this simple hint: Put fabric softener sheets or perfume sample strips in the bottom before putting the trash bag in. They can help prevent odors.

Tuesday Tidies

Another great hint from Heloise:

Food Burned on Bottom of Cooking Pot?
To get food crud off, pour full-strength vinegar into the bottom of the pan and let soak for around 30 minutes. Then scrub and wash well.

(Tardy) Tuesday Tidies

I had in mind to write something (a)musing today...but instead I found this wonderful hint from Heloise to share with you:

Magazines Smell?

If old magazines have a musty odor, get rid of it by putting the magazines outside (in the shade) for a couple of hours or by placing them in a plastic container and pour baking soda or cat litter over them and keep sealed for several days.

Tuesday Tidies

Since I love the smell of fresh, clean linens, I loved this hint from Heloise:

To Refresh a Linen Closet:

Mix several drops of lavender essential oil with several of bergamot essential oil and put onto cotton balls/pads and then put into an open jar. Store the jar on the bottom shelf or in a corner. Don’t let the cotton balls/pads touch any fabric material or surface.

Tuesday Tidies

Since Tuesday is "bed-changing day" at our house, I decided that I might start an occasional feature of "Tuesday Tidies," (following in the footsteps of my other occasional feature, "Hellish Kitchens.")

I subscribe to "Hints from Heloise" and have often found her hints quite helpful. So without further ado....

If Your Closet Smells:
  • Dust and vacuum it often.
  • Fill a sock or two with activated charcoal (found at pet stores) to help contain the odor.
  • Keep the closet dry and aired out.
  • Never put unwashed or stinky clothing back into the closet.
  • Launder first.
